Amanda and Stacia have a wonderful idea!
I was just telling a colleague the other day
that I want to teach whole class using mentor
texts and have the activities to go with them!
I already do use fiction and nonfiction
a lot, but don't always have ready to go
activities for the books!

I couldn't believe when I saw this!
Exactly what I was hoping for!
We will share our favorite texts
and teaching ideas! They are going

but these books just go together!

The Week After Spring Break

I was just plain exhausted all week
after coming back from Spring Break.
I didn't do or get near as much done
as in a normal week, let alone a
holiday week! I am STILL not caught
up on reading blogs, emailing, etc. either!

How many of you still have spring break
coming up? At the end of my post,
I have a free Spring Break Survey for
your students to complete after break!

My last post was about a new packet
I created for the story
The Easter Bunny's Assistant
by Jan Thomas.

Click here to see the post.

fiveforfriday

1. We spent a day doing all of the
activities in this packet.

To start it off I read the story
wearing this awesome hat I found
in a gas station in Beaver, Wyoming
on my way to Las Vegas.

I couldn't believe it!
There....in a clearance bin...

a SKUNK HAT!!

If you wouldn't think I was nuts I'd
say finding the hat was the best part of the trip!

One activity from the packet.

2. Egg Geodes

This is an awesome science experiment
I read about on Kristen's blog.

A day in first grade

Check out her blog post here.
She gives very detailed information!
Click here for the actual science site.

The Results!

It is just an amazing, fun experiment!
The kiddos LOVED it!

3. Graphing jelly beans

Jelly bean experiments

4. Nonstandard Measurement

The first picture is from my
Measure My Life packet.
This was the last activity,
Measure My Teacher.

Please ignore the bottom of my shoes!
The pea gravel on our playground just
tears up dress shoes!

This activity is from Teach with Laughter.
Check it out here!

5. Good Friday/Easter Party

We have an Easter egg hunt every
year, provided by a couple of people
in our town.

I have a small party in our room with
treats and the movie, Here Comes Peter Cottontail.

Bunny Hop at the end of the day!

after spring break survey!

After the Easter egg hunt this morning,
I told the kids they could pick out one
piece of candy to eat now and one to eat later.
The rest was to go into their bags in their lockers.
  It was taking forrreevvvveeeerrr!!
So I told them I was counting down from 10
and any candy left out was MINE!

Never have I seen those guys move so fast!!

Top O' The Morning & Suggestions Needed!

My laptop keeps crashing!
I haven't got it to start since
MONDAY!

It just started up today but
keeps kicking me off things!

I have missed reading all the blogs.
It feels like way longer than 4 days!

We had conferences this week as well
so I never had a free moment to get
on my laptop at school.
Plus the time change...ugh...

On to happier things!!

I wrote a little story...
I know...everyone is a writer!
It is just a little story that I want
to sell on TpT. I am NOT an illustrator
however.  I can't find the clipart I need.
Can anyone suggest someone that
will do a few custom pieces?
I would actually love to have
it illustrated instead of just clipart,
but clipart would probably be easier?!

I have tried several "big" clipart
shops and haven't heard anything back.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
THANK YOU!

Can't forget these great linkys!!

fiveforfriday

Here is a peek at
our week!

1. Jump Rope for Heart
& silly stringing our principal
who had a heart attack
several years ago.

There's my cutie patootie in the pink jeans!

2. Our wee leprechaun has arrived!

Click here to see the door after everything gets
set up.  I add one new thing each day!

3. St. Patrick's Day activities all week!

Searching for tiny sight words!

Hats made for the leprechaun to magically shrink!
Forgot the after picture with their golden treat!

Let's just not discuss my jello cake.....

A couple of the leprechaun traps....

The kiddos got to show and share
their traps. They were adorable
explaining in great detail how their trap
would catch that leprechaun!

Oh...my...word...
did that leprechaun ever make a mess!

Love this little girl...
she's thinking "What the?!"
and the one in the background with her hand
on her head...HA!!!

He did leave us a mess but
also a pot of gold for each of us
and a little note!
Click here for the freebie note!

No leprechaun!
Better luck next year kiddos!

We did way more than this for St. Patrick's Day
activities...just forgot pictures.
My fav is the Lucky Charms marshmallow activity!
We read a lot of books too!
The students loved "The Night Before St. Patrick's Day"!
They just have to list EVERY "Night Before"
story we have ever read!

4. Learning to tell time!

Rockin' around the clock!
I played the song
Rock around the Clock
while they danced around.
When the music stopped they
found a desk and wrote the digital
time.  I started the music again
and they danced more.  When I
stopped the music again, they found
a new desk and wrote the analog time.
They LOVE this!

It is part of Rachelle Smith's
Telling Time Packet.

5. I am leaving on a girl
road trip to Las Vegas on
Monday morning. I am going
to be gone for 6 days!

I bought a small present for my
youngest to open up each day
I am gone.  I have only been
away for a night at a time.
I am sure my older two will just
want money and I don't think they
will miss me quite as much as
my 6 year old!
I don't know how I am going to make it!
WHAT was I thinking?!?!
