Pet WHAT?!?!

PET ROCK!

Check out this yearly favorite!
I have students tell me, years later,
they STILL have their pet rock!

(We do this activity during our study of nature's resources and rocks!)

Her pet rock's name is
Cotton Candy!
How sweet is that!!

This is by far one of their favorites!  They ALL
want to tell me right away what their pet's name
is and show me the house they designed
 and blanket they chose!
I know this is the
 LOUDEST
my classroom is every year!

Well...maybe not! :)

We will have a show and tell tomorrow!

Ran out of time........

Story of my life!!!

Anyway....

I love to pair up fiction and nonfiction books during a unit!
I also try to have a story souvenir to match the theme!
I give these on Mondays after reading the first fiction
and nonfiction story to introduce the unit.

Let me back the truck up!
We began our morning with Babbling Abby's

Mystery Box Activity

Click the picture to check it out!

I just saw a post on this!  The teacher has the clues
hidden around the room and the kids go on a hunt!
I can't remember who or I would give credit!!

HOW MUCH FUN WOULD THAT BE
WITH....

MAGNIFYING GLASSES!!

So doing that for our next mystery!!

We also began Babbling Abby's
Let's Get Pop-Rockin'

Pop Rockin' Descriptive Writing Activities

Click the picture to check it out!

Just goes so perfect with our science unit
and adjectives study!

(Please forgive my chart! I never seem to get them made ahead of time!)

They are all kinds of excited about this project!

They can not WAIT to come back tomorrow
to find out what is in the bag!

I have put the pet rock
items I use in a packet
for sale on TpT!

check it out if interested!!

Rocks: My Pet Rock

I am looking forward to tomorrow!
We will be continuing all the fun!

Making rock candy and digging for rocks!
(chocolate chip cookies and toothpicks!)

  1. I love your pet rock shop! It's absolutely precious! I've had students create pet rocks before, but your rock shop is so much cuter. I have the unit on my wish list. I'm certain I will be purchasing it when we get to our rock unit. Thanks for posting about it.

  2. This is adorable! What an awesome, easy way for the kiddos to practice counting money and making change! (I'm assuming they pay for their blankets and rocks!) This would be perfect for those kiddos that don't have as much pocket change since they don't have to bring in anything they can't find outside!

    So cute!

  5. Pet rocks in the classroom seems like a great idea! And they're a lot easier to keep alive than hamsters or goldfish. Looks like you and your students are having a ton of fun in the classroom!

  18. Pet rocks in a cage and the blanket boutique -- SO CUTE!! I would have loved this as a kid. I had more pet rocks than my parents knew what to do with growing up! My best friend is teaching a rock unit right now with her 2nd graders and I can't wait to share this post with her!!
