Read Across America

I honestly debated on whether to celebrate
Dr. Seuss this year.  I decided to believe
that Dr. Seuss himself would not be proud
of what happened and so I chose to celebrate
all that he contributed to literacy...
AND the kiddos LOVE it!

Don't get me wrong, I understand it's the LAW,
but still......

I had so many kids gone this week.
The crud has hit my class hard.
One little one missed this whole week.
She ended up with pneumonia.
I don't like when they miss school, but
I especially don't like when they miss
these extra special weeks.

So my Five for Friday Friday Flashback
is all about Dr. Seuss activities!

fiveforfriday

Day 1

The Cat in the Hat came back
for a visit and read us a story!

If Thing 1 and Thing 2 came to my house.....

This one cracks me up!

I would welcome them with a cake
and let them play the wii.

LOVE this one too!
I would scream and move to a different house.
I think I might get some blue hair.

Day 2

Tuesday was Grinch Green day.
We also ate green eggs and ham.
(Scrambled eggs with diced ham mixed in)
I have no idea why I didn't get pictures!

Day 3

Where did all those Thing 1 and
Thing 2s come from?!?!

Day 4

Every year my 1st graders
have a Shape Party and
invite the preschool classes.
My kiddos take pictures of things
around the school that are recognizable
and we bind it into a class book for
the preschool classes. We serve
shape snacks, of course!
We read the Shape of Me and other
Stuff by Dr. Seuss as well as
another shape book and of course
read the book we made them!

Little Cindy Lou Who reading!

Today was Crazy Hair/Cindy Lou Who hair day!

Day 5

Our last day of the celebration!

The Butter Battle!

Making Oobleck!

Crazy Hat Day!

Snack Time!

I have made a cake similar to this one...
once...that was it! It was very time
consuming for someone not used to
cake decorating.

I made a cake similar to this most years.
Much easier but still time consuming!

This is what I did this year!

Pinterest inspired but I used
White Striped Shortbread Cookies
from Wal-Mart. Didn't take long at all!
They were a hit with the kiddos!

Fiction & Nonfiction Pair

We began our ocean unit
this week.

  1. Fabulous fun in first grade! Thanks for inviting us to the shape party each year. It's a fun time and reinforces what we have been learning. I had one of your kiddos stop me in the hall today to tell me about the Oobleck. Fun, fun!
