This post is long and 

chock full of FUN!

1. Farms

When the students arrived at school, 

this is what greeted them.

I heard one little one say something

along the lines of Mrs. Short has gone

cuckoo...she has Halloween decorations up!

I insisted that I didn't do it!

We began our study of farms with

the movie Charlotte's Web.

(Ah....now the spider web and word Read makes sense!)

We used Babbling Abby's

It All Started with a Pig,

(Charlotte's Web)

Fiction and Nonfiction Pair

with farm animal story souvenirs.

Students  partnered up to

research a farm animal.

Each group had a different animal.

We researched pigs, horses,

cows, sheep and goats. 

They filled out a can, have, are

sheet that they made on a blank

paper.  They read the nonfiction book

together and found at least one item

for each.  We also put in 1 fun fact.

Students then wrote 4 sentences about their farm animal and made  the farm animal craft.  They were very easy, cute (and FREE!) and  came from Reagan. The pig is a bobble head! 

Chickens

These fiction books, Interrupting Chicken and the

Big Chicken series, are some of my favorites!

Interrupting Chicken is perfect to read because

it is a little chicken and she interrupts her dad as 

he tries to read fairy tales...connections across the subjects!  
LOVE when that works out!

This product goes with the Big Chickens book!

I love it! It has a graphing activity, a writing 

activity and craft!  I think I own every one of

Christie's craftivities!

This chicken cracked me up so I had

to take a picture. When the girl finished it,

she sat it in the chair.

Pigs
Nonfiction and Fiction Pair with a pig eraser story souvenir

I didn't take pictures of our Chester the Worldly Pigs! 
We made giant construction paper pigs and used cutouts 
of each continent and glued them onto our pigs.

Cows

Petting Zoo
Our high school ag class put together a petting zoo for the  students.  Worked perfectly with our farm theme!

2. Toy Show
We are studying -oi and -oy this week. To end the week we had a Toy Show. This gave the students the opportunity to show and tell, which they do not get to do unless they are the Star of the Week or purchase a show and tell ticket.

They took the following note home with  the 1st sheet to fill out and return.  They completed the other sheet at school and used these during their speeches to keep  them on track.

3. Cinco de Mayo

We looked at examples of Mexican products.

We listened to some festive music.

We read stories....

yes fiction and nonfiction!

We ate!  Chips and salsa and cookies from Mexico.

4. Mother's Day Tea

Performing our poems and songs!

Giving our mothers our gifts!

We presented our moms with a DVD of 

our 3 movies we made and a handmade card.

5. Fairy Tales

We began our unit last week with the Fairy Tale Inference Investigation.
This week we used my Common Core  Activities that go along with the  fractured fairy tales shown on the cover.

The kiddos went nuts this morning over the giant 

cookies and the fact our beanstalk was gone!

We wrote informative, opinion and narrative stories.

We used our investigative

skills to determine setting,

characters and important details

using this product. It models

a newspaper!

Random Pictures
The old lady who had so many children she didn't know what to do  lives in our state!

We went to a track meet for my middle daughter and my youngest fell in love with this playhouse that was on their playground!  To be honest....I did too! I want it for our school!
